In conventional hot stamping, a carrier film supports a thin decorative system during processing. The selected decoration transfers to the packaging surface and the carrier is peeled away. Keeping these functions distinct helps describe what the finished logo contains and which material remains in the spent roll.
The foil construction
KURZ's Hot Stamping Process brochure describes a polyester carrier supporting lacquer layers and an adhesive sizing. Its metallic-foil diagram also identifies a release layer and a metallized layer. These are different functions within the construction, rather than one thick metallic sheet attached to the package.
The exact stack depends on the foil grade. A metallic construction can use a thin metal layer to provide a reflective effect. A pigment foil need not have the same metallic structure. Specify the actual foil system rather than assuming every color or optical effect has identical layers.
What stays on the packaging
A heated die or roller brings the foil into contact with the component under pressure. In the intended image area, the release and bonding behavior allows the decorative system to separate from the carrier and adhere to the receiving surface. The carrier provides support during this step and is then removed.
Transfer is selective. Areas that have not been stamped remain on the carrier, so the spent roll can contain unused decoration around the transferred image. Describing the process as transferring the entire foil roll onto the component misses this distinction.
The receiving surface matters
The adhesive layer must suit the actual receiving surface. That surface may be the molded substrate or an applied coating. Naming the base plastic alone is therefore incomplete if the decoration will be stamped over a coating.
Foil grade, surface condition, tool contact, temperature, pressure and contact time belong to the process combination. A useful setup transfers the intended detail and establishes the required adhesion without damaging the component or the layers beneath it. Settings established for one combination should not automatically be applied to another.
Check image coverage and edge definition separately from adhesion and the agreed handling resistance. A bright, complete-looking logo describes its appearance at that moment; the project's relevant performance observations still need to be made on the decorated component.
The carrier has a separate material route
After transfer and separation under the conditions specified for the foil, the carrier is collected as a process material. Its handling or recycling route depends on the foil construction and the available collection system. Removal of the carrier alone does not establish the recyclability of the finished cosmetic package.

Specify the finished decoration
For a decoration project with SamBound New Material Technology Company Ltd., whose website is sambound.com, describe the component surface, foil grade, image area and intended finish together. This provides a clearer starting point than requesting a metallic color alone, because it identifies both the appearance and the surface onto which the decoration must transfer.
